Domains and DNS

Below are the questions we get asked most often, with a short answer and a link to the article with the full explanation. Can't find your question? Ask the AI assistant or check the knowledge base. Still stuck? Submit a ticket (Submitting a ticket).

How do I move my domain to WebOké?

Ask your current provider for the transfer code (also called an EPP code or auth code). Then order the transfer on our website and enter the code. You can also enter the code later. You can follow the progress in the Transfer centre. See Transferring a domain to WebOké (transfer code or transfer later) and The transfer centre: transferring domains to WebOké.

Can I already view my website at WebOké before the domain has moved?

Yes. With Test your website before moving you see the version hosted with us, while your current site stays online as normal. See Testing your website before a move.

Will my site go down during the move? And my mail?

It doesn't have to. Set up your website and mailboxes with us first, and only move the domain name afterwards. For a short while, some mail may still arrive at your old provider, so keep checking there for a while too. See The transfer centre: transferring domains to WebOké and Migrating email to WebOké (including from Microsoft 365).

I want to move my domain to another provider. Where do I find the transfer code?

On your domain's page in My Domains. There you can also turn off the transfer lock. See Transferring a domain away: transfer code (EPP) and transfer lock.

How do I change my domain's DNS?

In My Domains you can add, change or remove records. For MX, SPF, DMARC, CAA and SRV there are helpers, so you don't need to work anything out by hand. See Managing DNS: adding, editing and deleting records and DNS helpers: MX, SPF, DMARC, CAA and SRV.

Can I make a backup of my DNS first?

Yes. Make a DNS backup before making any major changes. If something goes wrong, you can restore it. See Restoring DNS and creating a DNS backup.

My domain isn't working. How do I find out why?

Check your domain with Domain health. You'll see a green, orange or red dot for each part, and for your own domain you can often fix problems straight away. See Domain health (also without an account) and Domain and email health: checking and fixing. Also check the status page (Incidents and maintenance).

How do I link a domain to my hosting package?

In My Domains on the Move tab: choose the domain and then the package as the destination. You can see which domain is in which package under My Products in Domains per package. See Domains per package and moving a domain.

How do I redirect my domain to another website?

Set up a domain redirect. You can also set up email redirects in the same place. See Email and domain forwarding.

What is DNSSEC and should I turn it on?

DNSSEC signs your DNS data, so nobody can secretly send visitors to a different server. See DNSSEC and DANE.

Can I hide my name and address in the WHOIS?

For many extensions, yes, with WHOIS privacy. See WHOIS privacy. If you want to see what's currently in the WHOIS, use our WHOIS tool (WHOIS, IP lookup and SSL checker).

I've received an email from ICANN or the registry asking me to confirm my details.

For many extensions the owner has to confirm their email address. Do this in time, or the registry may suspend the domain. See Domain contacts and changing the owner.

How do I make sure my domain doesn't expire?

Turn on automatic renewal. See Renewal and auto-renewal.

What happens if I cancel a .nl domain?

The domain stops working on the end date and then goes into quarantine for a while. It no longer works during this period, but you can still retrieve it. After that, the name becomes available for anyone. See Cancelling or transferring a domain.
