Chapter 5 · 5.9
Anyone using shared files uses your storage
When sharing, it's useful to know whose storage gets counted. The rule is simple: a file counts towards the owner of the folder it's in.
| Situation | Who does it count towards? |
|---|---|
| You share a folder with Lisa, and Lisa adds a video to it | You: it's your folder |
| Lisa shares a folder with you, and you add a file to it | Lisa |
| A client uploads via your file request | You |
| Files in a team folder | Not one single person |
| Deleted files and old versions | Don't count towards your storage (see Viewing your storage: what counts and what doesn't) |
What can you do if it gets to be too much?
- Check Viewing your storage: what counts and what doesn't to see how to view what's using your storage.
- Agree with each other who manages which folder, or use a team folder (see Team folders: a shared folder that belongs to the team).
- Set an end date on a link or file request, so files don't keep coming in unnoticed.
- Need more space? See Storage full: making room or upgrading.
