Frequently asked questions about calendar, contacts and phone

The questions we get asked most often about Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Mail in your WebOké Nextcloud, with a short answer and a link to the full explanation.

Why doesn't my usual password work in my phone's calendar?

Your WebOké Nextcloud asks for an extra code when you log in. A calendar app on your phone can't fill in that code. That's why you use an app password for calendar, contacts and tasks: a separate password for one device, which you can always revoke again. See App passwords: when and how to use them. On Android, DAVx5 can also log in via your Nextcloud's login screen and then creates an app password itself (see Calendar and contacts on Android with DAVx5).

Do I need a separate app on the iPhone?

No. The iPhone and iPad can work with your Nextcloud calendar and contacts on their own (CalDAV and CardDAV). You just add an account in the settings. See Calendar and contacts on the iPhone and iPad.

And on Android?

Android can't do that on its own. You install the app DAVx5, which brings your calendars, contacts and tasks into the standard apps on your phone. See Calendar and contacts on Android with DAVx5.

Can I see my calendar in Outlook?

Yes, with the free add-in CalDav Synchronizer for Outlook on Windows. Viewing only is also possible with a subscription link. See Calendar in Outlook with CalDav Synchronizer and Outlook and Nextcloud calendar side by side.

How do I transfer my calendar and contacts from Google or iCloud?

Export the calendar as an .ics file and the contacts as a vCard (.vcf) and import them into your Nextcloud. See Subscribing to an external calendar and importing a calendar, Contacts: creating, groups, importing and exporting and Moving your calendar and contacts from Google, iCloud or Outlook (ics and vCard). For Google, you can also use the WebOké Import Tool (Transferring Google Drive, Photos, Calendar and Contacts with the WebOké Import Tool).

After importing, I have everything twice. What now?

This happens if you import the same file twice. In Contacts, select two duplicate cards and merge them; if you have a lot of duplicates, importing again into an empty address book is faster. See Cleaning up duplicate contacts after transferring.

The people I invite don't receive an invitation

Check that you're creating the appointment in your own calendar, that it's in the future, and that your email address is set in your profile. See Inviting people to an appointment and Appointment invitations that don't arrive.

Can someone without Nextcloud see my calendar?

Yes, with a public link. Anyone with that link can view the calendar, but not change it. You can also embed the calendar in your website. See Sharing, publishing and embedding calendars in your website and Putting a public calendar or booking page on your website.

Can customers schedule an appointment with me themselves?

Yes, with an appointment schedule. You choose when you're available and share a link; the customer picks a free time slot. See Letting people book appointments through a booking page.

Where are my contacts' birthdays?

Fill in the birthday for a contact. It will then automatically appear in the Birthdays calendar in your Calendar.

I accidentally deleted an appointment or a whole calendar

Deleted appointments and calendars first go to the Trash bin at the bottom left of Calendar. You can restore them there. See Calendar: views, making appointments, repeating and reminders.

Do I also see my tasks on my phone?

Yes. On the iPhone they appear in Memories, on Android with DAVx5 in a tasks app such as Tasks.org. See Tasks on your phone: Reminders on the iPhone, Tasks.org on Android and Tasks on your iPhone and Android at the same time.

Can I read my email in my Nextcloud?

Yes, with the Mail app. You link your own mailbox, for example a mailbox from your WebOké hosting package or Email Only package. See Adding your mailbox to the Email app.

My phone has been stolen. Can someone now access my calendar?

Immediately revoke that phone's app password via Settings, Security, Devices & sessions. After that, the phone no longer has access. See Viewing, revoking, or remotely wiping devices and sessions.

My IP address is being throttled and I don't know why

This is often caused by an old device that's still trying to sync with an old password, such as an old phone or tablet with your calendar on it. See Multiple invalid login attempts: why you're being slowed down and how to fix it and IP address throttled by an old app: which one is it?.
